We are delighted that Clare County County Council have granted planning permission for the new dwelling house that we designed for a site between Ennistymon and Inagh. The requirement was for a small house that makes the most of sunlight, orientation and existing views. The house is designed with the main living spaces to the south with large floor to ceiling glazing that look out over the countryside. The large roof overhangs help provide shelter and shading and the house will have a grass roof as part of its sustainable design strategy. The use of a grass roof ensures the footprint of natural ground is not reduced by the construction of the house. Other features include a passive foundation, timber frame construction, cellulose recycled newspaper insulation and a compact unit that provides ventilation with heat recovery, hot water and comfort heating. All aspects of the design come together to make for a house that will be a joy to live in, cost very little to run and have excellent comfort.
